    Succulent Care 101

Caring for Succulents Indoors Because of their special ability to retain water, succulents tend to thrive in warm, dry climates and don’t mind a little neglect. This makes them well adapted to indoor growing and ideal for people desiring low-maintenance houseplants. If you’re choosing succulents for the first time, follow these steps for successful care of your new plants. Choose the right succulent for your indoor conditions Most succulents like direct sunlight, but if all y

    OMG!

Or, It's Time For OUTDOOR MINIATURE GARDENS! There is no rule about Miniature Gardens having to be in a container, so it's time to think outside the pot! Build Mini Gardens into your existing landscapes and gardens. Imagine your tiny garden peeping out of your herbs or surrounded by perennials. Succulents are definitely trending right now, but be sure that they have the same needs for light and water as the other plants you may be placing them with. Alternatively, check with

    A Little Fairy Controversy

Some of us can be a little opinionated when it comes to our creative endeavors. Even in the cheerful, sunny world of Fairy Gardening there is dissention at times. I know of one group, for example, that gets bent out of shape about the true meaning of Miniature Gardening and what qualifies as an authentic miniature plant. They look down their noses at all the Fairy nonsense as they create beautiful, proper miniature landscapes and lay perfectly even rows of tiny pavers. On the

Fairy Gardens, Kids and Great Adventures

Garden centers all over America provide many wonderful opportunities for us to attend classes and workshops about Fairy Gardens and Miniature Gardens. We can learn the fundamentals of Miniature Gardening, design basics, miniature plant and succulent care, and so much more. I’m a believer that Fairies, Gardening and Kids just naturally go together. I’m not saying Miniature Gardening is not an adult hobby, because I’m completely obsessed and can’t get enough. However, building

    Thinking About Spring?

I know I am!  Thinking and hoping Spring comes soon! It’s not too soon to be planning for outdoor miniature gardens. Of course, you can plant indoors anytime. That’s my favorite part about Fairy Gardens. Well, one of my favorite parts. I’ve located an article I’d like to share with you from Better Homes and Gardens about great plants for miniature gardens, including a bit about their care and preferences.  I hope you find it helpful. Click on the link or the photo. Enjoy! htt

Although I’m not one for resolutions, something about a new year just gives me a feeling of optimism and expectation. A new beginning, perhaps? How about you? Anticipating good things for 2019? A positive attitude goes a long way in turning things around. If all else fails, don’t forget to fling a little fairy dust! Just Mini Gardens wishes you, friends new and old, a safe, happy and prosperous New Year! #FairyDust #Gardening #MiniaturePlants #FairyGarden #LifeTruths #Miniatu

    Fall In The Fairy Garden

Alright.  These are not fairies. But they are delightful. And they are some of my favorite people. And looking oh so adorably Fall-ish. Anyway... I have a good reason for talking about Fall, even though it is hardly Fall in the Smokies.  It still feels like Summer.  I found this great DIY from Espoma for a Fall Fairy Garden and it talks about a product I've never heard of, but I am definitely going to be using.  ShapeCrete - "Plays like clay, works like concrete.."  Intrigued

    The Making of a Mushroom

We've been spending a lot of time in the evening and on weekends creating mini garden accessories for our shoppe.  This is fun and relaxing for us, and we would much rather be crafting than all the other things we should be doing. My mini mushrooms are made of clay, and they start out looking like this.  They have to dry for 24 hours. The next evening, we paint.  Red is the most popular, but I love turquoise and I feature turquoise in many of my fairy gardens. They aren't spo

    Fairy Friday!

This little fairy happens to be the cutest fairy I’ve ever met.  My very favorite.  One thing about him is, he loves to twirl.  He also likes to frolic and scamper.  It’s what fairies do when they’re not flitting.  Or sleeping.  Or eating cookies. My girls love to twirl and dance, and my granddaughter twirls with me.  It’s a natural expression of happiness, I suppose.  Fairies know…  twirl a little this weekend! #Dance #FairyGarden #Miniature #Garden #Fairy #MiniatureGarden #

    Life Truths

Ok, so this isn’t about Mini Gardens, and it’s a stretch to be related to gardens at all. But it is SO typical for one-half of the team here at Just Gardens Supplies. The other half, of course, creates fabulous fresh salads (it isn’t me). So Much Change (all good)

The entrance to our new building. Our New Shoppe We told you way last summer that we were going to be moving.  SO MUCH has happened between then and now!  It’s just the two of us running this business, so when things get crazy, we really have to scramble.  But, the remodeling and moving is done, and we’re pretty well settled in.  We have some projects to do outside when Spring arrives, such as a beautiful outdoor patio area and something to make our entrance warm and inviting

    Welcome Summer!

This is what I think of when I think happy thoughts.  Sun, sand, toes in the water, and a fruity frozen beverage sporting a fairy-size umbrella.  Ahhhh! You haven’t heard from us much lately.  Our apologies.  What a Spring it has been!  We are so grateful to be busy… but one day our landlord walked in and announced he was selling our building.  Soon.  So on top of our busiest season we have been hunting a new location, hiring contractors, designing a new space… oh so many lit

    Always Leave Room for Fairies

Those in the know (i.e. Len) would tell you this is a weed.  Not exactly a garden.  But my fairies are friendly and adaptable, and with the soil in East Tennessee they take what they can get. Besides.  I like them.  Daisies are the friendliest flowers.  That’s a movie quote friends.  There’s a free bottle of Fairy Dust for a lucky winner if you get it right in the comments and follow us!* Happy Friday everyone! *winner chosen at random #FairyGarden #EastTennessee #Miniature #
